Course Overview: Human values and ethics play a very important role in the well-being of a society and nation. Human values are the foundations of the moral of an individual and helps to sustain the peace and harmony in the society. Western ideas of human values differ with the Indian idea of human values. The Indian idea of human values talks about the balancing between an individual, society and the universe. Its emphasis is on the right of existence of all creatures on the earth. The spontaneous and natural observance of human values by every individual is the key to balancing the resources of the universe. Ethics is an integral part of human life. Ethics is the social discipline which is followed by the individual as well as society.  It works at various levels and strengthens the human and humanity. Humanitarianism is the essence of modern society, and it creates the road map for the development of an ethical society. Spirituality and divinity are the added flavours by Indian Philosophy in the Idea of human values and professional Ethics. For the smooth functioning of society, trade, commerce, economy and the development process of the nation, professional ethics is the very important aspect. Observance of professional ethics at individual level as well as social level plays a vital role in the well-being of the society.  Students will be able to understand the concepts of human values and ethics & they will gain the expertise in practicing the applications of human values and professional ethics.There is Global demand for experts in Human Values & Professional Ethics. Diploma Syllabus

Paper 1 : Concept and Principles of Human values

This subject delves into the universal nature of human values, transcending cultural, geographical, and temporal boundaries, and their applicability to every individual irrespective of their background. Through a comprehensive study, students will understand the intrinsic worth of human values and their significant contribution to human flourishing, ethical foundations, and societal betterment. The curriculum navigates through the diversity and unity of values across cultures, the balancing of conflicting values, and the influence of role models in embodying and reinforcing these values in daily life.

 

Paper 2 : Types of Human Values

This course examines various types of human values, starting with Autonomy, which highlights the significance of self-direction and taking charge of one's actions. It then delves into Community values, emphasizing cooperation, solidarity, and a sense of belonging, underscoring the critical role of collective well-being. Creativity is celebrated for its contribution to innovation and originality, fostering an environment where thinking outside the box is valued.

 

Paper 3 : Application of Human values:

The subject begins by exploring the implementation of core values such as integrity, professionalism, accountability, innovation, and caring within organizations, highlighting their significance in achieving organizational vision and fostering a positive workplace culture. It then delves into the interpersonal aspect of values, emphasizing the importance of recognizing co-workers and celebrating their contributions and life milestones.

 

Paper 4 - Introduction to Indian Knowledge System

Learner should have basic idea and understanding of the concept of Indian knowledge system. IKS has multiple dimentions and inter connectivity. The applications at IKS are in day to day life. IKS has been evolved and developed through the voyage of centuries. Ancient Rishies, Munis and scholars have carried this vast base of knowledge systematically though oral traditions and people tradition. Learners should have overview of IKS.

Paper 5 - Idea of Ethics & Types of Ethics

This subject is designed to explore the foundational concepts and various dimensions of ethics in both personal and professional spheres. Beginning with an introduction to the objectives, morals, values, ethics, and integrity, the course will guide students through a wide array of ethical considerations including work ethics, service learning, virtues, and the importance of respect, peaceful living, caring, sharing, honesty, and courage. It further delves into workplace challenges, the role of spirituality, and the significance of traits such as cooperation, commitment, empathy, and self-confidence

Paper 6 : Behavioural ethics, Professional ethics, Business Ethics

The course begins with an overview of behavioral ethics and professional ethics, introducing students to a variety of moral issues encountered in everyday life and professional settings. It explores types of ethical inquiries, moral dilemmas, and the concept of moral autonomy, leading to an understanding of moral development, consensus, and controversy within ethical discourse. The curriculum further examines models of professional roles, responsibilities, and theories about right action, emphasizing the importance of self-control, self-interest, customs, and religion in shaping ethical behavior.

 

Paper 7: Humanitarian and Ethical Society

The subject begins by focusing on the development of ethical competence, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the definitiveness of ethical human conduct and its inherent acceptance of human values. It explores the foundations of humanistic education and the principles that underpin a universal human order, advocating for educational systems that prioritize human values. The curriculum delves into professional ethics and the integration of humanistic models in education, employing holistic methodologies, systems, and strategies to facilitate this transition.

 

Paper 8 - Study of Dharma

Dharma is a very broad concept but it has been presented and percolated in a very complex and confused manner in a society at a large. Unfortunately Dharma is considered as equivalent to religion. It is very necessary and important to understand the baisc idea of dharma. Every student and learner need to be familiar of the foundations, functions and features of Dharma. Dharma is the way of living life, Dharma principles are guidelines for individual and society and balancing between individual, society and universe. Applications of Dharma are the basic rules of management of the relations between human and universe. Study of the Dharma will enlighten students that the real meaning of dharma and how it is different from religion.

ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION 

  • 100 marks for the subject 

  • Written Exam – 60 Marks, Assignment – 20 Marks,  Oral – 20 Marks 

  • Project – 1 Project - Thesis & Presentation (Year End)

  • Passing – Min. 40% marks in each subject 

  • (Note: The written Exam will be offline at various CSU centers around the India)
